Vinay Sapru thanks Himesh Reshammiya for giving Sanam Teri Kasam title

Speaking of how he feels about Sanam Teri Kasam, director Vinay Sapru said, “The first thing that comes to mind is to say thank you to Himesh Reshammiya ji. When we had finished making the film, the songs were ready, and we were somewhere in the middle of the process, we still didn’t have a title for the movie. While working on the music settings with Himesh ji, he said, ‘This film and its soul—I have a title that I think suits it perfectly.’ He said, ‘I have a title—Sanam Teri Kasam.’”

He added, “I immediately said, ‘Sir, this is such a great title! Can you give it to us?’ He replied, ‘I love this film, and I love both of you—Radhika and Vinay. And I want to give you this title.’ So we thought, ‘What better title could there be?’ Honestly, if Himesh ji hadn’t given us this title, the film wouldn’t have had the same name. In fact, when we were making the film, it had a different working title. Since you asked, yes, we had completed the film before this title was finalized. We were working with a temporary title, as songs were being composed in the background.”

When Himesh suggested the title

Concluding the director said, “The first song we created for this movie was Tera Chehra. While all these titles were great on their own, when we were working on the title track, we explained a crucial scene to Himesh ji. In that scene, the protagonist sees Saru’s picture with a garland around it. And he tells her father not to put a garland on her photo. Instead, he takes the garland and places it around his own neck, expressing his deep sorrow. At that moment, Himesh ji said, ‘I have the perfect title line for your film. ‘Durr jaaoge tum, mar jayenge… teri kasam.’ And that’s how we got the title Sanam Teri Kasam.”
